چکیده

Introduction: 4D flow-sensitive MRI is characterized by its high-dimensionality (depiction in three dimensions and over time of anatomy and three-directional blood flow velocities) that allows comprehensive blood flow and vessel wall analysis within complete arterial segments (1-3). However, the high-dimensionality of 4D-flow-sensitive MRI is limiting the clinical application of the technique by making image acquisition time-consuming. In this context, recent developments in MRI acceleration techniques such as parallel imaging (4), non-cartesian (5,6), compressed or sparse sensing are promising. Nevertheless, high acceleration factors are known to substantially degrade image quality. Additionally, the use of many surface coil results in high SNR near

Cardiovascular 4D velocity mapping accelerated with k-t BLAST at 3.0 Tesla: 8-channel vs. 32-channel coil arrays

Background 4D phase contrast CMR can be used to visualise and quantify cardiovascular flow and has become more widely available. However, the scan times tend to be long. Acceleration techniques such as SENSE can be useful. k-t BLAST is a recent method employed to reduce scan times even further. However, these newer acceleration techniques may potentially degrade image quality; this could be ove...

Quantitative Analysis of Vortical Blood Flow in the Thoracic Aorta Using 4D Phase Contrast MRI

INTRODUCTION Phase contrast MRI allows for the examination of complex hemodynamics in the heart and adjacent great vessels. Vortex flow patterns seem to play an important role in certain vascular pathologies. We propose two- and three-dimensional metrics for the objective quantification of aortic vortex blood flow in 4D phase contrast MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS For two-dimensional vorticity a...

4D flow imaging with MRI.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an important tool for the clinical evaluation of patients with cardiovascular disease. Since its introduction in the late 1980s, 2-dimensional phase contrast MRI (2D PC-MRI) has become a routine part of standard-of-care cardiac MRI for the assessment of regional blood flow in the heart and great vessels. More recently, time-resolved PC-MRI with veloci...

Reproducibility and inter-observer variability of velocity and 3D wall shear stress derived from 4D flow MRI in the healthy aorta

Background 4D flow MRI is a powerful tool to measure timeresolved three-directional blood flow in the pathological and healthy aorta. The 3D aortic velocity measured with 4D flow MRI allows for derivation of 3D wall shear stress (WSS), which is believed to be related to vessel wall remodeling and possibly an important biomarker for aortopathy. However, it is still unclear how variability of the...

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...
